You can read about Apollo all you like, but it takes pictures like these to truly convey the wonder of journeying to the Moon; few space books have had such an emotional impact on me. Zdjęcia wyskakują wręcz ze stron i trudno sobie wyobrazić, jak wiele pracy i umiejętności kosztowało ich przygotowanie. In less than her lifetime (she died in 1984), she saw America move from the horse and buggy to the moon, which is an astonishing accomplishment. Absolutely spectacular photography from all of the Apollo moon missions, plus a few from earlier space flights, and accompanying information for each mission.

Meticulously working on each image, Saunders has delivered the reader a time capsule worthy of anyone’s reinforced book shelves. The restoration project Apollo Remastered brings out new details and shows the missions as experienced by the astronauts for the first time - it’s a voluminous coffee table book that offers the reader a mesmerizing vision of the bygone moon landing era. Andy Saunders trawled through 35,000 images held in NASA’s archives; studying each one, frame-by-frame, and although some looked far from promising, what they contained was extraordinary.

The boards, with the fine silver titling to the front panel, are sharp at the corners and tight at the spine. If there is any book that a person should have who has any interest in art, photography, and spaceflight history, this is it.

Every image is accompanied by an explanatory caption, including quotes from the astronauts at the moment they were taken. Other editions in the range are limited to three Artist’s Proofs (A/P) and one Exhibition Print (E/P) directly from the wall of any extended public exhibition. Thanks to the work of British imaging specialist Andy Saunders and his breakthrough craft of stacking old NASA video frames to sharpen resolution, we have a fresh look at a historic moment in space travel. It really is amazing what Andy is doing, it makes it look like it happened yesterday and now we're getting to see what things really looked like, versus what we thought they looked like - almost like going from black and white to color! The design concept is to evoke a feeling of strolling through a gallery with each turn of the page - the image is overwhelmingly the focus, with pertinent information available adjacent to it, but without distracting from the image itself.By comparison, printed media ever since the 60s and 70s were produced from duplicate film, or copies of the ‘dupes’; likely via further internegative copies, making them multiple generations away from the original and without the benefit of digital processing.
