All the characters from the first book are here with the addition of new off spring as the years progress.

I was sorry to reach the end of The Daughters of Castle Deverill, as I now have to wait for the third and final chapter in the series. I adore nature, so I tend to plant my characters in rural settlings - by the sea or in the countryside - and most of them are stand alone, except Last Voyage of the Valentina and The Italian Matchmaker, and my recent trilogy, The Deverill Chronicles, which is set in Ireland from 1910 to the sixties. She has also co-authored the Royal Rabbits of London series with her husband, the historian and author Simon Sebag-Montefiore. As The Daughters of Castle Deverill opens, Montefiore is quick to transport her readers to the current comings and goings of her characters.Castle Deverill, nestled in the rolling Irish hills, is home to three very different women: flame-haired Kitty Deverill , her best friend and daughter of the castle’s cook, Bridie Doyle , and her flamboyant English cousin, Celia Deverill . As the lingering effects of the Great War is felt, followed by the financial crash of 1929, the book focuses on how this impacts on our three main players. Both books could easily be read as stand-alone novels, though I highly recommend you read Songs of Love and War first, purely because it is so good and will add to your enjoyment of Daughters of Castle Deverill. I love all things Ireland anyway, but Montefiore's writing makes me want to pick up and move right now. I have read a number of Santa Montefiore books in the past and I have enjoyed each and every one of them.

Most of my novels are set partly in England and partly in a beautiful location, like Argentina, Italy or France. Born in England in 1970 Santa Montefiore grew up on a farm in Hampshire and was educated at Sherborne School for Girls. The ethos of the books is somewhat modern bearing in mind the period described, having witchcraft, adultery, homosexuality, ghosts and murder in the story. S. - then was sad to see that the library didn't get the sequel (UK author) - so I bought it here and LOVED this book, I will be donating to our library when I'm done!Once again the writing is lush and descriptive and pulls you right into the story almost as if you are there! Our son came up with the idea when he was six years old and it's now being made into a movie by Fox Disney, which is beyond exciting. Montefiore also adds another locale, by basing an additional story thread in South Africa, allowing her to contrast all three settings. Montefiore does a great job of including pieces of background from the previous novel to ensure an easy transition for the reader.

As these three daughters of Ireland seek to make their way in a world once again beset by dark forces, Santa Montefiore shows us once more why she is one of the best-loved storytellers at work today. I didn't think I had another in me, but here I am, celebrating my twenty-first and polishing my twenty-second for publication next year! I probably won’t go back and start over myself, but I do recommend starting at the beginning if this is the type of book that interests you. The story started moving, and the pieces started making sense together–I still felt like I was playing catch up the whole time, though. She read Spanish and Italian at Exeter University and spent much of the 90s in Buenos Aires, where her mother grew up. Si pensaba que la primera parte había sido increíble, esta segunda parte se ha llevado la delantera!
