It is also supported by research into RE, including research into practice and the theoretical work of academics and professionals. There are many different methods of interpretation, and there are even more categories of interpreter based on which industries they serve. Travel interpreters accompany anyone ranging from journalists and ambassadors to rich tourists on international trips.

Much of this literature recommends some form of prescribed and detailed curriculum content (sometimes called a ‘national entitlement’) to support improvement in RE. Though common, not all within the RE community deem a movement from local to national determination necessary. [footnote 13] In schools without a religious character, we look at RE as part of EIF inspections under section 5. [footnote 4] We also look at RE in voluntary controlled ( VC) schools, whether or not they are designated as having a religious character. What Is An Interpreter?

In terms of the biosemiotic theory, this corresponds to the level of representamen interpreting, or translation. In a multimodal account, it refers to the reconstitution of a complex sign that amounts to the re-expression of meaning based on understanding and therefore constitutes a multiple process of meaning-making. Reading the map from top to bottom, it is important to note that translation extends along the interlingual and intralingual as well as the intermodal dimension, colour-coded as red, green and purple, respectively. The top-level taxonomic distinction, based on the criterion of immediacy, or live performance and use, is between translation, on the one hand, and interpreting, on the other. In the area of translation, shown on the left-hand side, AVT is foregrounded as one of many areas of translation, of which only few are listed, for reasons of space. In contrast, the area of interpreting, shown on the right-hand side, is subcategorized by temporal working mode rather than genre or setting. If you’re wondering how to become an interpreter, you might have to start by considering the method of interpretation you’d be best at, or that you’d be required to perform, as well as the field you want to go into. Often, becoming an interpreter requires you to have specific skills and knowledge sets tailored to the exact kinds of situations you’ll be confronted with. For instance, a knowledge of foreign affairs is necessary if you’re working in international relations, whereas you might need medical jargon if you’re working in doctors’ offices. An MA in Interpreting is available and many employers will look for this qualification particularly in conference interpreting. If you want to work within the public sector, the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI), or an MA in public service interpreting is usually needed. Business interpreting doesn't have specific training requirements but interpreters in this field have typically come from either conference or public service interpreting and so are likely to have one of the above qualifications.

Other useful experience includes language and interpreting projects from your undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications, examples of how you've used your other language(s) in practice, or any other work you've carried out in a foreign language.
