There’s a story behind this as we had to find a solution to a problem with regard to the dimensions of a sub-cill and how to measure them. As to which is required depends on whether you’re installing an aluminium bi-folding door, sliding door or window. You also need to give consideration for the floor and wall construction and Building Regulations. It also depends on what cills are available and appropriate to the design and/or aesthetics of the building internally and externally. Aluminium Sub-Cill The other two points were that the sill end caps were not fitted as whole ends but cut and sealed for just the part visible externally. Again I would have done this different but told this doesn't matter as it is a sealed chamber in the sill . Is this an issue? The system can accommodate pitches from 5 degrees to 15degrees, on standard modular kits the maximum projection is achieved at a pitch of 5 degrees.

I assume both would do the same job..? Or should I look to get another with the grooved tip..?!? I find it difficult to see why you don't have a 6mm gap(the height of the inner lip) under the frame at the sill outside. The window frame itself can have an effect on which type of cill should be used, but the majority of frames may be used with either slip or stooled cills. You say the sill was attached to the frame before fitting. If it was screwed from underneath, you will need to take the whole frame out and sort it properly. Opening Direction: Looking at the door outside the house, do you want it hinged on the left or the right? The two-pane can also be supplied as a French door.

Sometimes it may be appropriate to use aluminium cill pressings instead of either an aluminium sub-cill or an aluminium extension cill. A cill pressing should not bridge the thermal break in the aluminium door/window profile as this creates a Cold Bridge which reduces the energy efficiency of the frames and in some cases will not be compliant with the Building Regulations as it could cause condensation.
