This is my third title from Speakers Corner. All are good. All analog mixed. You can really hear Bowie as the producer on this. A true classic album. Perhaps the worst of the batch, “Perfect Day” is a soft lilter about spending a wonderful day drinking Sangria in the park with his girlfriend, about how it made him feel so normal, so good. Wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful. This is one of the quietest pieces of vinyl I’ve heard. They’ve done an impressive job presenting the material. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. There was this whole glam thing going on so I just put myself in that head. Its not like I had to go very far to do it. I have about a thousand selves running around. Songs like 'Vicious''Walk On The Wild Side' and 'New York Telephone Conversation' are some of the more campy compositions in the Reed canon. But on the other hand 'Perfect Day' is one of the most angelic and profound writings from Reed giving the listener never a dull moment to an album that is constantly satisfying through and through. The celebrity line-up was impressive, if a little predictable; Bono was in there as you'd expect, Tom Jones over-did his line, possibly sending himself on the way to his first aneurysm in the process, and David Bowie was there to sing his bit on his old bed buddy's tune. In fact, for those inquisitive enough, you can find the full cast here. It was only the second time in history where members of the pop aristocracy were caught out by misguidedly embracing a song that was originally written about heroin. The first time of course, being the butchering of Red Hot Chili Peppers' hit " Under the Bridge" by big lipped girl group All Saints. Some records are so unbelievably repulsive”, raged the magazine Rolling Stone, “that one would best like to take physical revenge on the artists who commit such offences.”

Goodnight Ladies” is another cliche about the lonely Saturday nights, the perfumed decadence and the wistful sipping of mixed drinks at closing time. I honestly do not know how this lp could sound any better. Amazing sonics and quiet vinyl beginning to end. This is a properly manufactured record. It is well known that comparisons seldom get to the root of the matter, but in the case of Lou Reed, for example, they certainly reveal the unassuredness of those people who made them.
